A MESSAGE CONCERNING THE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY SCRABBLE GAME Kathy Greenberg, Ph.D. Notice, I used the word GAME. Think of the task of finding the words as a fun game and a challenge, NOT OVERWHELMING. When I developed the concept, I did not anticipate the complexity, flexibility and creativity that would be required. At times, it was very frustrating and I felt like giving up. I walked away from the computer, got rejuvenated and came back with a fresh perspective. Every time I thought the job was complete, a new word came to mind. Some words you will find easily, others will be more difficult. All words are not the same size or may not be perfectly lined up. The number 43 is not an even number. THERE IS A METHOD TO MY MADNESS AND A DEEPER MEANING. Develop the mind set as REHABILITATION as a challenge to over come, NOT insurmountable or overwhelming. The brain is very complex. Rehabilitation post TBI requires flexibility and creativity. When it gets overwhelming, sometimes the best thing is to walk away, step back and get rejuvenated. Some days and goals are easier to achieve than others. Similar to the size differences, there is no one size fits all model. Similar to all words not lined up perfectly and the number 43 being an odd number, the rehabilitation process is not a straight line up. There are peaks, plateaus and setbacks. Similar to a new word or combination coming to mind just when I thought the job was complete, REHABILITATION POST TBI IS NEVER OVER.
