From  Susan Tayo

On January 10, 1998, my then 28 year old son, in a matter of minutes, became a TBI patient. At the time I did not know what TBI was nevertheless what I have to do to be a caregiver for a TBI patient. Now I am one. You would be amazed at the way faith and spirit can give you strength. As long as I stay focused on the positives and not let the negatives hold me or my son down, no matter how bad the news was, I was able to take care of him almost effortlessly. Faith bestows awesome miracles upon the faithful. My son suffered Cardiac Arrest and a lack of oxygen to the brain for an unknown amount of time. We were told that he would not have anything except for his body because of the severe damage to his brain.

At that time there was nowhere to look but up and that is exactly what I did, and continue to do. My son is very fortunate to have family and close friends that continue to be strong for him. The point I would to get across is that if you take small, simple steps and keep your faith it will be easy to be a caregiver. Most people ask me how this has changed my life. Well, I appreciate life a lot more and in the most simple ways. I am hoping that my experiences in this past year and a half can help other caregivers that are about to go through what I have gotten through.
