Jessica, I'm not a care giver but, a survivor since 1985. And I remember coming home afer an 8 month stay in the hospital. I was home about a week, my wife (now ex) had a "welcome home" party with my friends and Co-workers..
I was simply over-whelmed and hadn't adjusted to all the stimuli going from a quite setindary life stle that I was accomstumed in the hospital. All my friends thought I'd be good as new and that I would be okay. Allow him to adjust first then maybe a couple of months later, have the party. He will be quite happy to be home in the meantime...let him enjoy it without friends first.
