The Department of Camping & Recreation now offers family respite "weekends in the country" at our Harriman Lodge facility. Families are invited to enjoy the recreational and leisure activities of the scenic Catskill Mountain region - with the entire family!

Our "get-away weekends" are fun-filled and take place in a totally accepting environment. Families are able to share experiences with other families who have similar circumstances; they need not worry about filling the day with activities for their children - our staff will. Parents are afforded time alone while their children are well supervised, and siblings have the opportunity to socialize with other siblings who also have a brother or sister who has a developmental disability. Fieldtrips to local attractions are also available if desired by the participants.

The weekends include round trip transportation to and from the Lodge, and all meals are prepared and served by AHRC staff. Our "get-away weekends" are open to all natural or adoptive families caring for a family member with a developmental disability who resides at home. Persons of all functioning levels are eligible, including physical disabilities. Groups leave NYC from a convenient meeting place on Friday evenings and return on Sunday afternoons. There is no fee to the family for the weekend.
