Two contributions From Kathy Greenberg, Ph.D.
1-
Six months after completing my doctorate, I had open heart surgery. Twenty four hours post surgery, I went into cardiac arrest
and a deep coma for one month. This poem was written on the same day ten years later.
"Ten years to the date, I got a bad break.
And a new challenge, I was forced to face.
It became a matter of looking at life, half full and not half empty.
Even though the frustrations and disappointments, there are many.
To grieve for what it was, and what will never be.
But find inner peace. WITHIN ME.
To set new standards for success.
And be proud of them. Even if they are less.
To be receptive to assistance to get a job done.
From your deficits, do not RUN."

2- KEY WORDS
from Kathy Greenberg, PH.D. TBI Survivor
1) Life is half full, not half empty.
2) Let me find the STRENGTH and COURAGE to adapt to life changes. To ACCEPT what cannot be changed. The WISDOM and HONESTY to
know the difference.
3) Learn to LIKE the new you.
4) Sometimes the road to MAXIMUM INDEPENDENCE, is leaning on someone or something.
5) Think of what happened as a CANCELLED CHECK. It is cashed/ history. Over with. THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. Think of
the future as a PROMISSORY NOTE. You have OPTIONS and CONTROL.
6) One day and one step at a time.
7) Do not get mad, get even.
8) Behind every cloud, look for the silver lining.
9) Just because you are different, DOES NOT mean you are worse or less of a person. DO NOT use negative adjectives to describe
yourself.
10) What CAN I do today, that I COULD NOT do yesterday, last week, or last month?
11) Set new standards for success, AND BE PROUD OF THEM.
